What is vegan food? A vegan diet excludes all animal products, comprising vegetables, vegetable oils, grains, legumes, nuts, fruits and seeds. Meat, eggs, dairy products, and other animal derivatives are not consumed.
Why do people choose a vegan diet? There are many reasons for choosing a vegan diet, whether for overall health, food allergies, animal rights, environmental reasons, or ethical, religious or spiritual beliefs.
Do I have to be vegan to eat at Ethos? Certainly not! Diet and nutrition are not a one shoe fits all situation. We believe that choices about diet and nutrition are private decisions that must be determined by each person's own health factors, personal taste, and inclination for cooking. While part of our motivation in opening Ethos is to showcase how delicious a vegan diet can be, we do not intend to convert the world to veganism. We welcome guests of all nutritional backgrounds. However, if you interested in learning more about the benefits of a vegan diet, please visit our Links page.
What does "Ethos" mean? By definition, ethos means "the distinguishing character, sentiment, moral nature, or guiding beliefs of a person, group, or institution." We chose the name Ethos because it implies the ethical and moral nature of our beliefs about operating a socially responsible business.
Do you accept take-out orders? Yes, we do! You can place a take-out order by calling the restaurant at 407-228-3898. Our friendly staff will be happy to let you know about today's specials.
I am very strictly vegan. How can I be sure your definition of "vegan" is the same as mine? Our menu is crafted with ingredients that pass our vegan standard: no meats or byproducts, eggs or egg derivatives (ovo- ingredients), dairy (milk, butter, yogurt, cheese) or dairy derivatives (including whey, casein, and lacto- ingredients), or honey. If you have questions about a particular menu item or ingredient, please ask one of our friendly staff members.
Are you a counter service or full service restaurant? We are a hybrid between table-service and counter-service. Guests order and pay at the service counter and receive a number placard. You and your party then seat yourselves anywhere in our indoor or outdoor dining rooms. When your food is ready, our friendly staff will bring it to your table, along with napkins and silverware. Refillable drinks, such as iced tea, coffee and water, are self-serve at our beverage station. If you would like to order anything additional you should return to the service counter, where we also have envirnomentally-friendly boxes available for your leftovers. When you have finished your meal, you simply leave - we will take care of the dishes.
What is the "Employee Fund" Jar? Isn't it just a tip jar? Due to our fast-casual service format, tipping at our establishment is optional, and not expected! All of our employees are paid a regular hourly wage, and do not rely on tips for any part of their income. You may have noticed that there is no tip line on our credit card vouchers. However, market research has indicated that our guests would like the ability to show their appreciation for service that exceeds their expectations. Therefore, we have created an "Employee Fund" Jar, which is distributed based on majority vote of the entire staff (excluding Officers and Managers). The Employee Fund can be distributed as an all-employee bonus, donated to charity, used to fund a particular staff project or event, or distributed in any other manner duly suggested, voted, and approved by the staff.
I only have an hour for lunch. Do you think I can eat lunch at Ethos and make it out in time? The length of your dining experience will depend on how busy the kitchen is and what you order. Generally, an hour should be plenty of time. Because most of our food is prepared to order, you can speed your order along by ordering items that are quick to prepare. For instance, it takes us much longer to prepare a pizza than a sandwich. If you are on a short timeline, please ask our friendly counter staff for help in choosing menu items that will come out of the kitchen quickly. You can also consider placing a to-go order, and taking your lunch with you.
Can I bring my dog (or other pet) if I plan to eat outside on the patio? While we are a dog-lovin' family, we must insist that our entire facility remain animal free. In addition to being prohibited by the health code, other outdoor diners may not be comfortable with having a dog in near proximity of their food, regardless of how small or well-behaved he or she may be. Please observe our policy.
Do you serve alcohol? Yes, we offer a small selection of beer & wine. (Did you know that not all alcoholic beverages are vegan? Well, don't worry, we've verified that our selections are vegan - free of isinglass, chitosan, and albumen.) Please note: in accordance with local ordinance, BYOB is not acceptable at our restaurant.
May I smoke if I sit in the outdoor seating on the patio? We are a 100% non-smoking restaurant, and, as others are dining on the patio, we request that all guests refrain from smoking at all times. We also request that guests avoid smoking anywhere that smoke would float into our patio dining area, for instance, on the sidewalk just outside of the gate or fence. May we suggest a walk in the park to go with that cigarette? Thank you to all for observing our policy.
Can I reserve a table or room for my large party? Because of our fast-casual format, we are not able to reserve table space for a particular group. However, we have plenty of tables both indoors and outdoors and should be able to accommodate your party without a reservation. Large parties are welcome to pull together several tables to accommodate their party. Please request assistance from our staff while in the restaurant if you need help finding a place for your party to sit. If you will be arriving with a very large group, (20 or more guests), you may wish to visit our catering page to learn about additional options for large groups.
Do you deliver? Currently we do not offer delivery service. However, we may introduce delivery service to a limited downtown area at some point in the future. Check back to our website again later for more info, or sign up for our monthly email newsletter to stay informed.
Is your menu all organic? No. We estimate that 50% of our ingredients are organic. Although our preference is for locally-grown and organic produce, we have decided not to attempt an exclusively organic menu, as some of our dishes would require organic ingredients that are not consistently available or are not cost effective. If you're interested in organic resources, please visit our Links page.
Is your menu all kosher? While we are not certified as Kosher, the absence of meat and milk makes nearly all of our menu items Kosher. However, we recommend that guests adhering to Kosher dietary laws avoid our Snickerdoodles, as they contain cream of tartar, a non-dairy by-product of wine-making.
Can I special order bakery goods? Yes! Please visit our catering page for more information. We do not prepare custom order cakes, however, please visit the "Ethos Friends" section on our links page for links to local custom vegan bakers!
Do you have WiFi? Yes, however, it only works inside. To connect, simply bring your WiFi enabled device, it's free!
How do I purchase or display art at Ethos? Our curator, Brian Kulbaba, coordinates the selection, display, and purchase of our ongoing local art exhibits. Please visit our Art page for information on the current exhibit, and contact information for curator.
